現行品では合うサイズのヘッドのないPearlの古いFiberCongaです。コンガフープが５ミリくらい大きいんですね。そのために基本的にはプレーンの生皮を買って張るしかないんですが、今回はCANOPUSの皮ヘッドを安く入手しました。

そこでヘッドスキンワイヤーを交換して使ってみようと思います。そんなことできるのでしょうか（実は何回かやったことがあります）

皮ヘッドを水風呂につけて柔らかくします。セクシーショットです。

ヘッドを外したので今のうちにボデイを中性洗剤で掃除しました。黄ばみは取れないけど、黒い汚れは結構落ちました。一応、エッジのところにワセリンを塗っておきました。

柔らかくなったのでスキンワイヤーを外します。ずっとこの輪っかをフープだと思っていました。フープはリムの方ですね。少し錆びてるので軽く錆落とし。あとでクレ556を塗っておきます。

コンガスキンワイヤーを交換します。ここまでは順調だったんですが……

さていよいよ、ヘッドを取り付けます。ぜんぜん入りません。皮の大きさがぎりぎりなのでラグにナットが入りません。頑張りましたができません！

そこで解決方法を考えます

思いついたのは二つ

第１案「新しく買った方のヘッドに合わせてフープを買い替える」

金がないので却下。

第２案「もっと水につけて柔らかくして皮が伸びるのを期待する」

これにしました。ちょっと挫折も見えてきました。どうなるでしょうか。待て次号！

This is an old Pearl Fiber Conga that does not have a head of the right size for the current model. The conga hoop is about 5 mm too large. To do this, you basically have to buy plain rawhide and stretch it, but this time I got a cheap leather head from CANOPUS.

So I'm going to replace the head skin wire and try using it. Is that even possible (actually, I've done it a few times)

Put the leather head in a cold bath to soften it. This is a sexy shot.

I removed the head, so I cleaned the body with a neutral detergent while I still had it. I couldn't get rid of the yellowing, but I was able to get rid of a lot of the black dirt. I applied Vaseline to the edges just in case.

Now that it's softened, I'll remove the skin wire. I've always thought that this ring was the hoop. The hoop is on the rim. It's a little rusty, so I'll lightly remove the rust. I'll apply Kre556 later.

I'll replace the Conga skin wire. Up until this point, everything was going well...

Now, finally, it's time to attach the head. It won't fit in at all. The leather is just the right size, so the nut won't fit into the lug. I tried really hard, but I couldn't!

So I started thinking of a solution.

I came up with two ideas.

First idea: "Buy a new hoop to match the new head."

I didn't have the money, so I rejected that.

Second idea: "Soak it in water more to soften it and hope the leather will stretch."

I went with this. I'm starting to see some setbacks. We'll see what happens. Wait for the next issue!
